How Sundarlal Bandyopadhyay become Bahuguna

On 09th January,1927 the famous Indian environmentalist and activist,Sundarlal Bahuguna took birth in the village Madora near Tehri Garhwal,Uttarakhand . He was a follower of Gandhian philosophy . He married to Vimla Bahuguna and had three children. He had fought for years by taking up the issues on environment protection such as building of large dams, deforestation etc.

How Sunderlal Bandyopadhyay become Bahuguna:-

                        In 2013 Sundarlal said about his bearing the surname Bahuguna. He was invited as chief guest in a award ceremony organised by the state environment department. There he addressed the audience that 800 years ago three men from Bandyopadhyay family of Bengal,who were his ancestors travelled to the Himalayas region and there they came in contact with the then King of Garhwals,who was very ill. Those three men were expert in the Knowledge of medicinal herbs and plants and that's why they managed to cure the king. As a result of this the king gladly gifted them a village called Buguna . Thus their surname became Bahuguna . Therefore he is now well known as Sundarlal Bahuguna.

                        As an environmentalist Sundarlal Bahuguna had written many books on environment.

Even there is a book on Bahuguna's famous quote  "Ecology is permanent Economy".The name of that book is - "Ecology is permanent Economy: The Activism and Environmentalism by Sunderlal Bahuguna" written by George Alfred James.

Movements by Bahuguna:-

                            After all Sunderlal Bahuguna is the hero of CHIPKO MOVEMENT he had also participated in two other environment protection movements. They are:-

• Anti-Tehri Dam Protest

• Appiko Movement

Conclusion:-

                        After struggling for many environmental movements Sundarlal Bahuguna took his last breath on 21st May,2021. He was tested positive for Covid-19 on 08th May,2021 and admitted at AIIMS, RISHIKESH, UTTARAKHAND. After combating with Covid-19 for thirteen days, on the morning of the fourteenth day i.e. 21st May,2021 he passed away at the age of 94.
